May 31st “No Tobacco Day” infographic joins the WHO in drawing global consumer attention to the costs and risks of tobacco use

Press Release

Lifequotes4u life insurance has launched the No Tobacco Day infographic for smokers to consider the positive effects of quitting smoking. Consumer facts about how much money is saved over time are a compelling read, as are the ways in which the body begins to heal immediately from being free from harmful tobacco and nicotine.

The infographic comes as the World Health Organization (WHO) created the World No Tobacco Day in 1987, a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption. The day is intended to draw worldwide attention to the widespread use of tobacco and the negative health effects, which leads to our current death rates of 5.4 million worldwide annually.

Research carried out by Oxford University estimated that smoking cost the NHS in the UK £5.2 billion in 2005-2006.

  • Financial cost to the UK of smoking related illness and deaths constitutes 5.5% of total health care costs to the NHS.

  • Cost of pharmacy drugs used to help people stop smoking was near 64,600,000 pounds sterling 2011-12.

  • Hospital admissions and deaths attributable to smoking were caused by COPD, trachea, lung and bronchial cancers. Cancers of the larynx, esophagus and upper airway sites as well as chronic airway obstruction debilitates and kills patients, and is completely avoidable.

  • Benefits of quitting are outlined in terms of just 20 minutes to 10 years of cessation.

  • Costs to the average consumer smoking 20 cigarettes per day are outlined and the pleasures possible with the money saved year after year are detailed.

  • Lifequotes4u educates the public to think differently about how smoking causes family grief,  respiratory diseases, cancers, and ultimately, death.
